As a result of the rapidly changing world, ING drastically changed course to an agile way of working and organizing. They saw visual collaboration as an important skill to make this change a success and take root. Buro BRAND was asked to implement this. Visual working is seen at ING as a valuable collaboration tool that is now used on a daily basis. Gathering and organizing information, sharing ideas, making decisions, visually presenting and taking minutes, and so on.
The steps
- ING Bank domestic set up a Visual Thinking Guild. A guild in agile terms is a group of people from across the organization who want to share knowledge and skills. They decided to engage an external party to learn and implement visual working as an organization.
- Prepare training program. Buro BRAND consulted with the visual thinking guild. Together we came up with what is needed to teach ING visual skills that are then actually used. Visual training for every ING employee was a result of this.
- Management commitment. This is where the great benefits of the visual thinking guild became apparent. Because the process was completed together from concept, through selection and programming, the employees were highly motivated to get the necessary management commitment. And it came.
- Overwhelming first year! At the start of the first training sessions, the interest was unprecedented. Thousands of ING employees followed and still follow the Business Drawing and Visual Storytelling courses.
- Follow up steps. Periodic consultations are held with the Visual Thinking Guild. Goals are set, events are organized, additional training courses are discussed and of course everyone is looking for good tips and the latest materials.
